Volunteer News.

A meeting of the shooting committee of the Manchester Rifles will be held at Light's Denbigh Hotel this evening at 7.30. A friendly match was fired between teams of seven men from the Manawatu Mounted Rifles aud Manchester Rifles, at the latter's range, on Saturday afternoon, when the weather was all that could be desired. The visitors arrived by the midday train from Palmerstou, being met by Captain Kirton and Lieuteuant Bray of the Manchester Rifles, and were driven to Mrs Hastie's Hotel, where they safe down to lunch with a few of the local corps. After lunch both teams proceeded to the range, and commenced firing at about half-past one o'clock. The match was concluded at five o'clock, resulting in a win for tho local team by 143 points. After cheers had been exchanged, the competitors left for the Feilding Hotel where they were entertined at tea. The visitors left for home by the 8.20 train, having expressed themselves well pleased with their outing and the hospitality shown them by the local men.
