Annexation of Samoa.
[Per Press Association] . Berlin, April 30. The German Colonial party are en* culating petitions throughout the country in favour of the retention of Samoa It is reported that the Emperor is averse to abandoning interests in the island Sydney, April 29 The Premier cabled to the Premier of New Zealand yesterduy in favour of the sole protection over Samoa by Great Britain, in preference to anjr colony exercising the rights of the Sovereign of Btate without means of enforcing the order. The Premier sent similar messages to the Premier of Victoria and the Asent-General for New South Wales in London. _ This Day The German view here, from one qualified to express an opinion, it that there is not the remotest chance of the ( acceptance of New Zealands prooosal with regard to Samoa which is entirely at variance with the terms of the treat} ; If New Zealands idea were carried out it would inflict ft real hardship on the German settlers. The German Imperial Government can hardly regard the proposals with anything but irritation, as it amounts to an implication that Germany has not looked sufficiently well after the interests of her subjects there
