Temperance Convention at Palmerston.
A meeting of the Convention Committee of the Palmerston Prohibition League was held on Saturday evening, at which it was reported that up to that kour the following Delegates had notified their intention of being present at the Convention on the 2nd May : Sir Robert Stout, Rev. F. W. Isitt, Rev. E. Walker, Mr Geo. M. Yerex, Messrs A. R. Atkinson, F. H. Fraser, A. J. Bennett, D. Hall, Helyer and Gibson, Mrs Dallaston and Mfs Wright (Wellington), Messrs Bobbins and Hunter (Hawera), Messrs Bassett and Carson (Wanganui), Mr J. W. Baker (Fordell), Mr G. J. Bruce (Turakina), Mrs Ross and Miss Milton (Marten), Rev. Jus. Douali, Messrs Stevenson, Bullard and Hinkley (Bulls), Messrs J. Reid and Walker (Sandon), Revs. Judkins and Clenicits, Messrs Andrew, Shearer and Thompson (Feilding), Messrs Dixon, Matheson, Haynes and Bailey ( Bunny tborpe), Mr J. C. Ransora (Campbelltown), Mr E. A. Huggen (Woodville), Rev. T. J. Wills (Makotuka), Mr Collins (Hastings), Mr D. N. Adams (Napier). The order of business for the Con vention was arranged as follows : — Chairman's opening address ; consideration of the Alcoholic Liquors Act, how it has worked and what can be done with it, Messrs A. R. Atkinson and W. C. Bassett will open the discussion, and a resolution will be moved, to voice the decision of the Convention upon the subject. Afternoon Session : Consideration of proposal for formation of Executive Prohibition Committee for the Wellington, Hawke's Bay and Taranaki whose duties shall be— -(1) To watch Temperance Legislation, and without delay influence the House upon the matter ; (2) To receive reports, suggestions and inquiries from all parts of the district, and decide upon the course of action to be followed by all. Suggested Constitution : Two members each from Wellington and Palmerston, one each from New Plymouth Hawera, Wanganui, Feilding, Woodville and Napier. First sneakers : Messrs D. N. Adams, and 0. 0. Ranson. Resolution to be moved— Key J. Doull. New Efforts : Formation throughout the colony of Five Divisional Executives upon the same plan as that suggested above. The Rev F. W. Isitt and E. Walker to open the discussion, and Mr F. H Fraser to move the resolution. The use to be made of daily newspapers, public meetings, school readers, church services, periodical demonstrations, and local election contests, for the propagation of the prohibition sentiment. First speakers, Messrs G. Carson and E. A. Haggen. Resolution to be moved by Miss Wilton. The speeches will not be strictly limited to time, but it is desirable, in order to facilitate business, that the opener on each question occupy not more than twenty minutes, and others speakers not more than ten minutes each. The following public meetings will be held in connection with the convention : — Tuesday, May Ist, at 8 p.m. — Addresses by Sir Hobert Stout, and ReV F. W. Isitt ; Wednesday. 2nd —Addresses by Messrs Atkinson, Fraser, Helyer, Bobbins, Carson, Reid Pirani, Judkins, and others ; Thursday, May 3rd, Mr George M. Yerex will lecture upon prohibitio m Can ada and the States.— Standard.
