Kiwitea County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Council took place in the office, Feilding, oh Saturday last. Present — Councillors Reid (chairman), Williamson, Homer, Jones, Jacob, and Morton. The minutes of the previous meet* ing were read and confirmed. SPECIAL MEETING. A petition was presented to the Council praying that the Kiwitea Road Board be merged into the Kiwitea County Council. The required number of signatures (270) being attached it was Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Reid, That the following special order be made, viz., It is hereby declared that the Kiwitea Road District be merged in the Kiwitea County Council, and the Road Board of the said district dissolved in accordance with the prayer of ratepayers set forth in the petition this day presented to the Council in that behalf, and also in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Act, 1886, such special order to take effect on and after May 22nd, 1894.— Carried. ORDINARY MEETING. Cr Shannon wrote, apologising for non-attendance at the meeting. From H. Barron, Under ecretary Lands Department, in reply to an application for a subsidy of £200 for a bridge proposed to be erected over the Rangitikei river at Otara, stating that the application will be considered, but that the Board must not assume that the Government will grant a subsidy for a bridge within such a short distance as Otara is from Vinegar Hill, as it might be found advisable to have a bridge higher up. Cr Reid said this letter was received while he was in Wellington interviewing the Government in support ot a grant, and until the site was settled they would not get a grant. Mr Williamson did not think the Government would build a bridge at Otara when they had in view the construction of a bridge six miles higher up. Cr Reid said the Government had practically fixed on the site. Proposed by Cr Homer, seconded by Cr Jones, That the following special order be made — That the bye-laws, as submitted in reference to general order, business, and wheel traffic, be adopted at a special meeting to be held on May 22nd, 1894.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Reid, seconded by Cr Homer, That the Advocate, Mercury, and Star, be asked to give a price for printing three hundred copies of bye-laws. — Carried. The meeting then terminated.
