Manchester Road Board.

: ♦ The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held at their office, Feilding, on Saturday afternoon last. Present — Messrs Lethbridge (chairman), Wheeler, Purkiss, Booth, Pearce and Con way. The minutes of the previous meet- * ing were read and confirmed. Anderson applying for the position of roadman. From S. Bankhnrst, re drains alleged to be the cause of flooding his land. From R. L. Pudney, asking permission to make approaches to his gates on Ashurst road. From W. Haynes and -four others, asking the Board to repair Todd's road. From J. Campbell, drawing th« Board's attention to the outlet drain at the railway end ot Nannested's road, alleged to be the cause of his property being flooded. From R. Hart, Ashurst, re drain opposite his property. From Secretary to Treasury informing the Board that the £600 loan for metalling Stanway and McDonald's roads is now available. — From Clerk Rangitikei County Council, inquiring the amount received during the current year as I license fees, to enable the cost of the recent licensing election to be apportioned. Cox, Clerk Manawatu County Council, re clearing FeildingHalcombe road and asking this Board to grant £ for £ as ratepayers in ibis, district would benefit most. From F. G. Moore, compiler of a Ready Reckoner to assist incalcuhttihg rates, and soliciting order for a copy. From J. B. Hey wood, Secretary to Treasury, asking for statement of receipts and expenditure, and assets and liabilities. From R. Snow ; section 1, part 12 A, sub G, f rom G. B. Simpson to Samuel Kirk; section 2, part 12 A, sub G, from G, B. Simpson to E. King ; section 19, Mugby Junction, from John Slipper to E. F. Eagar ; section 22 G, from Edward Win. Collins to J. Mackay. — Carried. J Proposed by Mr Letbbridge, seconded by Mr Booth, That the Treasurer (Mr Wheeler) and the mover be a committee to arrange with the Bank for an overdraft for the year ending 31st March, 1895, and that a cheque be given for the debit balance on the 31st March, 1894. Also, that all the members of the Board be empowered to sign cheques. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Booth, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That Mr Conway and the Engineer be asked to inspect the drains referred to by Mr S. Bankhurst, D, M. Orr, R. Hart, W Haynes, John Piercy, and report at the next meeting.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Conway, That permission be granted to Mr R. L. Pudney to construct culverts and approaches as requested. — Carried. Proposed-by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Pearce, That F. L. Behrent be informed that he must proceed with the metalling of Stanway road until stopped by the Engineer, and that the Board will take over all work passed by the Engineer should he deem it necessary to stop the work during the winter months — Carried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That it is the intention of the Manchester Road Board under the provisions of "The Rating Act, 1882," to make a rate of one half of a penny in the £ on all rateable property within the Manchester Road District for the year ending 31st March, 1895, such rate to become payable on and after the 7th day of May, 1894, in one sum at the Board's office, Feilding. The rate book will be open for inspection during office hours at the Board's office. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That the Engineer inspect, and if necessary replace, the culvert across the Stanway road, front* ! ing Mr Riddiford's property. Also, clean out the silt from bridge and ditches crossing the swamp on the clearing. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Conway, That in reply to Capt. J. Campbell re drain at railway end of Nannested's road, that the Board has received from Railway Department a letter stating that they will send a definite ajnswer at an early date. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Conway, That the Engineer be instructed to inspect breastwork and river above Menzie's bridge (Oroua river) and report at next meeting.-— Carried. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Pearce, That W.
