The Stock Market

MR CHAS. CARE'S SALE AT RANGIWAHIA. [FBOM OUK OWN COBRBSPONDBITT.I For some time past the settlers in this thriving district have been compelled to either go to Feilding or Birmingham to purchase or to sell stock/ and oftentimes have been disappointed through 'not being able to purchase the class they required. This inconvenience has cost them, not only time, but money. Mr Charles Carr; who has always the interests of stock-deal- - ers and settlers at heart, recognised this, and determined to include Bangi? wahia in his circuit. Last Friday he lifted the hammer for the firsjb time in. : : Bangi wahia in the presence of a large number of buyers. From early in the morning till late at night sheep, cattle, and drovers thronged the roads. Mr Carr, with the help of some friends, on the previous day erected a number of temporary sale yards, which were quite an ornament to the township. The; entries for sheep were large and those for cattle were fair. With the exception of three pens of sheep, all sold above the reserve. Bidding was fair, and in some cases brisk, especially for young cattle, which appear to be in good demand. The following are some of the prices realized : — < Sheep. — Old ewes, 3s 6d to 4s 6d j wethers, 7s 7dto 8s ; lambs, 3s to 4s 3d. Cattle. — 3-year steers, £3 10s ; cows and calves, £5 2s 6d ; heifers, springing, £3 10s to £5 15s ; milch cows, £4 10s to £5 ; weaners, 33s to 38s 6d. - The Egmont Farmers' Union (Ltd). Hawera, report : — We held our usual monthly sale at Okaiawa on the 22nd instant. Following are quotations :— Cuttle- Steers, 18 month to 2-year, £2 17s 6d to £3 lls ; yearlings and weaners, £1 10s to £1 16s; springers, £4 to £o 2s. Owing to our horse fair falling on the 24th instant, in the middle of the Easter holidays, we had rather a small entry, and the horses were not quite such a good lot as usual. There was a large attendance, but bid-, ding was decidedly dull, and most of the reserves were high, though we managed to place a good number of horses at fair values. We quote : — Draught, £14 15s to £20 : trap horses, £5 2s 6d to £12 10s • hacks, up to £7 10a. At Manaia on the 28th instant we had another small sale. Fat and forward bullocks brought £4 10s to £4 18s; 18-raonth to 2-year steers, £3 Is 6d to £3 9s ; fat cows, £3 9s to £4 ; yearlings, £2 4s to £2 ss. Messrs Abraham and Williams re- - port : — The horse market is very dull. A good many came forward on Saturday, but sales were few and far between, at rates on a par with recent prices.

A. O. Tame and Co., Wellington, re* port as follows of their 'weekly horse sale on Saturday: —A large "number of horses were entered for sale,. including some capital harness horses from Messrs Hocken Bros., of Feilding, and also some good hacks and harness horses from other clients.
