Introducing Game.
«. Sir Walter Bailer, on his visit up the Coast last week, took with him a large number of valuable waterfowl, which he had brought out from EugUnd in the B.M.£. Doric, and these have all been placed on the Papuitonga Lake, nour Ohau. They comprise several pairs of the Eughfeh mallard, or wild duck, aud of the smaller call duck ; also the beautiful Iceland shell- drake, the red backed Egyptian goose, aud the birnacle roosp. The last named bird has white cheeks and transverse black bands on the back, form mg a very striking picture on the watGr. There are also several pairs of Hungarian partridge, and of the small Teueriffo quail (very similar to tho Native q«iail formerly so abundant in New Zealaud) all of which have been liberated on private property adjoining tho lake. As Sir Walter's sbject is to get these desirable birds acelimised and distributed through the country, it is to bo hoped that the settlers and Maoris alike, will do their best to protect them
