Correspondence.
LICENSED HAWKERS. TO THB EDITOR OF THK STAH. Sib, — In your issue of Thursday. last you chronicled the fact that three hawkers had arrived in Feilding by the morning train. Now, Sir, as I happened to be one of them, I beg leave to reply to the writer who is snivelling and anxious to know if I had procured a license. If he had taken the trouble to enquire at the Borough Council Office he would have got all the information he required, and saved himself the trouble of rushing into print. Judging by his remarks in the issue referred, to, I am of opinion that he is a selfish man, one who would like to control the e.nergy and activites of all who surround him. But I would tell him in these days when competition is so keen when on every hand we see people insufficently supplied with desirable things they would gladly purchase were it not for the prohibitory prices which some of the storekeepers demand. He must not be surprised at them buying in the; cheapest market ; if he finds business diminishing the same avenue is open to him as well as me. If- the people won't come to you go to the people, but always remember they know when a thing is cheap and when its not. Thanking you for inserting this. I am, etc., Licensed Hawkkk. Palmerston N., March 26th, 1894. '
