« (PEB PHE9S ASSOCIATION.*) Wellington, March 19. A rather smart earthquake shock was felt at 6.45 last night. The Royal Tiger Hotel was broken into at 4 a m., and about .£l7 stolen. The Rev Mr Isitt is exhorting his followers to vote for prohibition and not reduction, on the ground that, even if the latter were carried, it was by no means certain that hotels would be closed because of the litigation that was sure to ensue. A man named Samuel Mitchell was drowned in »ho Mokihinui River on Friday and his body was found on the beach 18 miles south to-day It is surmised be tried to cross the rirer to secure his boat, and was carried down by the flood He was an old man, who held the Victoria Cross.
