Artesian Water.

Yesterday morning Mr Smith, representative for Mr Osborne, of Christchurch, stopped boring operations on Mr J. Saunders' place, Bangitikei line, at a depth of 228 "feet. The water is 4 feet 8 inches from the surface. The strata gone through in the boring operations were as follows :— From the surface to Bft, earth and clay ; from Bft to 61ft, shingle ; from 6ift to 64ft, blue clay ; 64ft to 93ft, shinglo ; 93ft to 110 ft, blue clay; 110 ft to 122 ft, shingle; 122 ft to 127ft> blue clayj 127 ft to 158 ft, shingle, and at this depth the water stood 12ft from the surface; 150 ft to 169 ft, blue day; 169 ft to 172tt, blue sand ; 172 ft to 178 ft, blue clay ; 178 ft to 197 ft, peat and wood (a log 2ft thick was gone through) ; 197 ft to 213 ft, white clay; 213 ft to 223 ft, shingle (the water rising to 7ft from the surface) ; 223 ft to 225 ft, sand and clay ; 225 ft to 228 ft, shingle. At this depth the water rose to within 4ft Sin from the surface, and operations were stopped, Mr Saunders not being prepared to go to a greater depth. The machinery was at once removed to Feilding. Mr Smith commenced fixing up his plant on Manchester Square this morning I preparatory to boring. A new, but lighter, plant for work in this locality has been sent from Christchurcfa, and as soon as it has been got into working order the former will be sent to Wanganui, where Mr Smith has already been successful in securing au artesian flow. The new artesian well-boring plant arrived by this morning's train from Wanganui.
