The Stock Market.
A. G. Taine and Co. Wellington report on the stock market for the week ending 2nd March:— Owing to the heavy weather prevailing during the past week, we had to postpone our country stock sales, and consequently have no public sales to report, but we have made the following sales privately — 1000 cull cross-bred ewes, 8s 6d ; 800 foil-mouth do, ss ; 400 2 and 4-tooth store wethers, 7s ; 400 do small, 6s ; 200 fat wethers, 2 and 4-tooth, 10s 3d ; 2QO do, 10s 6d ; 100 2tooth, 8s ; and lines of store lambs, 5s to 6s. We quote good lines of store 2 and 4-tooth wethers, 7s 6d to 8s 6d ; 4 and 6-tooth breeding ewes, from 7s to 8s ; full-mouth do, 5s to 6s 6d according to age and condition. Woolly lambs, 5s to 6s. The market generally is better, and less difficulty is experienced in doing business than a few weeks ago. At the above prices we could place coni siderable lines of sheep. Store cattle j are in good demand, particularly grow* ! ing cattle. We have sold calves at 25s and 26s 6d; yearlings at 35 to 87s 6d. Fat cattle are easier, and lower rates have to be accepted in order to effect sales. Beef may be quoted 17s to 18s for prime bullocks. The Egmont Farmers' Union report V^ —At our sale at Okaiawa on Thursday the 22nd ult., we quote as follows : — 2J to 3-year steers, £4 5a to £4 6s ; 12 to 18-months, £1 14s to £8 Is; fat cows, £8 10s to £4 ss. Our monthly Horse Fair was held on Saturday the 24th ult. We quote :— -Light draughts, £1B 5s to £ 14 10s ; harness horses, £8 to £17 ; hacks to .£ll. We had rather a dull sale at Manaia on Wednesday the 28th ult. We quote ; —Yearling steers, £2 Is to 4-2 5a 6d ; 12 to 18-month heifers, £1 19s6dto £2 16s. Sheep— Woolly lambs, 2s 3d to 4s lid.
