Meeting of Creditors.

A meeting of creditors in the estate of Emily Henderson (Henderson and Bridge), brewer, a bankrupt, was held at the Feilding Courthouse yesterday afternoon. There were present-^Mr G-. J Scott (the D.0.A.) in the chair, the debtor and her solicitor (Mr L E Beade)Mrß. Wrightson (representing W. D. Nicholas (representing G H Luxford, claim £9 5s 8d), Messrs A. R. Allan aud Co. £24 6d, Mr K F Haybittle £2 ss7d, J. Prior £&*&, Kirton and Curtis £6 13s, J. Smith £3 ! lGs, W. Thorburn £2 * The tot£ liabilities were £125 6s 3d. and assets The bankrupt's statement was that she went into the brewing business at Feilding, in partnership with James Bridge, in November, 1892. They each put £50 into the concern, and leased the brewery and plant from Mrs Wrightson at a rental of £1 5s per week, with a purchasing clause for £600. It was stated Bridge never attended to the business, and bankrupt had to put on another man at £2 a week. The partnership was dissolved about eight months ago, but Bridge did not get anything for retiring. The business was a failure from the commencement, the capital being too small to extend it, and she could not afford to sell the beer- except on monthly accounts, and this did " not suit the majority of her customers. The average turnover did not reach £20 per month and the expenses came to that amount. Both her husband. I and her son John worked in the concern, but got nothing for ifc. In reply to questions bankrupt said she was quite sure the business never paid ; it cost £3 a hogshead to make beer and it was sold at £4, two lots of malt were bought and £6 paid for it by Mr Bridge when they first' came to Feilding j repaid the latter by engaging a man at £2 a week in his place; the statement that Mr Bridge put £300 into the business was not correct ; paid £51 to Mr Hancock, of Auckland, in January lasjb, by a bill. Mr Wrightson said the books showed that ah average of eight hogsheads of beer per month, leaving out the first and last months, was brewed and that gave a discrepancy of £10 per month with debtor's staten.ent. He was' willing to take over the beer and plant and relinquish his claim. Exception was taken to the claim put in by debtor's son and some of the creditors wished, that item to be disallowed. Proposed by Mr ». F. Haybittle, seconded by Mr W. D. Nicholas, That a cash statement be prepared by Mrs Henderson & be lodged with the D.O.A. withii. 14 days, showing the cash received and the cash payments made from November 1892 to the date of closing the brewery. If such statement is not found satisfactory the debtor to be publicly examined. — Carried. The meeting then adjourned.
