Wanganui Education Board.

The Board resumed its ordinary monthly meeting yesterday morning. Present — Messrs J. Notmau (Chairman), Sanson, Fry, Hurley, Bridge, Carson and Rev. J. Ross. Election of Board Members. — The election of members to fill the vacancies caused by the annual retirement of three members was then proceeded with, with the following results : — Baker, 62 ; Sanson, 58 ; Hurley, 57 ; Treadwell, *JG ; and Wilks, 21. The Chairman declared the three h'rstnaniod gentlemen (the old members) duly elected. Tenders.— The following tenders were accepted ; — School furniture, for whole district, Mr G. 11. Anderson ; school requisites, Messrs H. I. Jones and Sons — both tenders to exist for four years. Pohangina. — Letter from Committee protesting against removal of school from Pohangina (the present site) to j the Pohangina Township. — Letter received. 8 tan way. — Letter received, enclosing resolution passed by the Committee to the efiect that evening lessons for preparation should not be given to the children, on account of , the scattered condition of the district. — Letter received. Birmingham. — Letter asking for subsidy of pound for pound for erection of a shelter shed, and stating that £10 had been raised. Resolved that pound for pound up to 47 be granted. Pemberton. — Application fpv. the sum of £ 2 10s, as supplement" to £5 collected by the Committee, for gravelling of school ground. — Carried. Upper Taonui. — Application for £2 to assist in papering teacher's residence. — Granted. AVaituua. — Messrs Fry and Sanson were appointed to define the boundaries of the school district. Avyahuri. — Jt was. resolved that Henry J-jyii.ll bp offered tha position as pupil teacher. Mr Spencer.— An application from Mj: Spencer, Assistant Inspector, for an increase of salary aud a more equitable arrangement in the matter of travelling expenses, was held over till next meeting. — Chronicle.
