The Manchester Rifles were inspected last night by Lieut. -Col. Newall, when there was a muster of fort)' men of all ranks. Colonel New all instructed the corps in the new formations and the duties of advanced guards. The pro gress made was highly satisfactory. At the conclusion of the parade, Lieut. - Col. Newall addressed the corps in reference to the Easter encampment, stating that arrangements had been lr.ade with the natives of Porirua for a camp there, the distance being about 13 miles from Wellington, the site being within five minutes' walk of the railway station, and within a mile of Porirua harbour, thus affording every facility for salt water bathing. The whole of the arrangements would be under his own supervision, and he would guarantee that the commissariat would be properly looked after. Regarding the transit of the various corps, he must confess he had been much disgusted at the manner in ■which they had been conveyed last year, but better arrangements had been made for this time. He further said that particular notice would be taken as to the muster of corps at this camp, and he might assure them of this, that corps not attending sufficiently strong in point of numbers might practically be told that they were not wanted, and they would have themselves to blame. Captain Kirton said that an amount equal to the camp allowance of last year would be handed to each man before starting for the encampment and any surplus would be paid on their return. The services of a competent cook had been secured, and a few necessasy cooking utensils ■would be taken down. The parade was then dismissed.
