The Dairy Industry.

\PBR PRESS ASSOCIATION/. Wellington, February 28. A deputation, representing the Taranaki dairy industry, waited on the Colonial Secretary to-day and asked Government to assist in getting increased space for the dairy produce on the Home trip of the Gothic. They pointed out that the only space reserved in her was for 900 tons of Taranaki produce, and this is secured by two persons. The Colonial Secretary said Shaw, Savill Co, had replied to enquiries of the Premier on the subject, stating they could not possibly comply with the request of the deputation owing to the large quantity of frozen meat that had to be taken on the Gothic under contract. The deputation also waited on Mr KcKerrow, Chief Railway Commissioner, and urged the reduction of freights between New Plymouth and the breakwater. Mr KcKerrow promised to consult his colleagues. Mr Low, the dairy expert in London, in his latest report complains of the inattention on steamers to the ! necessity of preserving a uniform temperature, and to the want of uniformity in the quality of butter, which he thinks keeps down prices more than anything else. The remedy is to send more factory butter, for at present nearly every private dairy means different quality.
