Kiwitea Board Loan Proposals.

PUBLIC MEETING AT BIRMING- I HAM. I

A meeting of the settlers of thei Apiti and Birmingham Blocks was held in the Town Hall, Birmingham, on Monday last to consider the pro- 1 posal to borrow certain sums under I the powers conferred on local bodies by the " Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886." The proposals were to borrow £2605 10s for McBeth's and Junction roads and £685 for the Branch and Terrace roads, both in the Birmingham Block, and £2570 for the Kiwitea Cross, Peep-'o-Day and Bluff roads in the Apiti Block. Mr F. A. Homer, the Warden of the Apiti ward in the Kiwitea Road Board, took the chair, and explained that with reference to Mcßeth's and Junction road the interest required would be £ 30 os^per annum, and the thirds would amount to £132 per annum. The amount of thirds in hand was £30 and the amount now due £61. Therefore the amount available at present was £91. The Branch and Terrace roads required £34 per annum to pay the interest on the loan and the thirds annually amounted to £32. The thirds now in hand were £17 4s and £20 12s 6d due, in all £37 16s 6d being now available. The Kiwitea Cross, Peep-'o-Day and Bluff roads required £-128 10s per annum to pay interest on loan while the thirds amounted to £92 per annum ; the thirds in hand amounted to £67 3s 2d while there was £44 6s 9d due, making a total of £111 9s lid now available. It was proposed by Mr Bathe, seconded by M r Boggus, That a poll be aken on Friday, the 16th March. Mr Bathe, in proposing a vote of thanks to Mr Homer for his conduct in the chair, moved, That a hearty vote of thanks and confidence be accorded Mr Homer for the zealous way in which he, as their representative, had worked for them in the Kiwitea Road Board. This was seconded by Mr Thos. Waugh, and earned unanimously. Mr Homer, in a few appropriate words, thanked the meeting for having passed the motion, and said that no effort on his part would be found wanting to further the interests of the settlers he represented in the future.
