THE UNEMPLOYED.
— -» We have good grounds for anticipating that owing iv a great degree tc the indiscreet action of the Government in attracting laborers from the other colonies to New Zealand, the unemployed difficulty will be accentuated during the coming winter. Il has been rumoured that the Government intends to discontinue the extension of the cooperative labor system, for the reason, no doubt, that it hat proved a snaie and a delusion to botl the employer and the employed This will mean that many hundreds of men of the better class of the unemployed, because they consist of those who are not only able, but are willing to work will be ihrown once more on tbeir own resouices to find employment. In this connection we would like to urge upon those Kiwitea ratepayers who arc moving iv tho directiou o\ niibiug loans for the construction of new roads hi their respective wa*ds, that they should usj their utmost eu- • leavours to assist iv getting tho loan proposals carried at tho polle. By so doing, at the present time, they will not ouly got their roads made at a moderate cost, owing to the abundance of labor, but they will give profitable employmeut to a deserving class of men ut a time when it is most needed.
