The Feilding Star. Published Daily. SATURDAY, FEB. 24, 1894. REGULATIONS FOR DAIRIES AND MILK SHOPS.
We fire indebted to our contemporiry the Post for the following infornation on the subject of the regulaions drawn up for the consideration >f the local bodies with respect to the nspcction of dairies and milk shops. \. medical man is to be appointed injpector, and dairies are to be registered, cattle to be inspected, and the Jairies to be thoroughly ventilated md clean. . In case the Inspector is >f opinion that any of the cows am iiseased, he shall notify the dairyman :o that effect, and may further certify lhat the sale of milk from the dairy, sr specified cows, is likely to endanger the public health. Upon service "f the above notice, the dairyman is subjected to certain restrictions as to the sale of milk until the removal of the certificate. He may, however, at any time, notify the Inspector that Ihe requisitions of the notice have been complied with, or that a Veterinary Surgeon has inspected the cattle, uud given a clean Mil of health. Thereupon the Inspector shall make a fresh inspection, and, in cases where a Veterinary .Surgeon has given a clean bill of health, tho Inspector must be accompanied by a Veterinary vrhi> shsvll make a loport which shall be finally binding, l'rovieion is made for further inspection, and, on the removal of the causo ol complaint, for the grant of a ccrtifi c-iite to that effect by tho Inspector Clause 7 provides against the employ in the production of milk or its distribution of any person suffering, 01 lately in contact with a person suffering, from a dangerous iufeetious disolder. Clause 8 provides fur the notifying to lho Clerk of tho Local liody of the fact that any person so employed is suffering from any contagious or infectious disease. Stops are to bo taken nt once by the Board or the Inspector in respect of such notice, and, if deemed necessary, a certificate shall bo given that i he milk from the dairy is likely to endauger tho public health. Upon the abatement of the disease and the cessation of all danger, a notice is to be given removing the certificate. Clause 9 provides that no milk shop or store shall be used for bleeping apartments or any similar purpose conducing to tho contamination ot milk. Clause 10 prohibits the keepiug of swiue within a certain distance of the cowshed, dairy, milk shop or otoio. Clause I 1 similarly provides against allowing closets, cesspits, or open drains within a certain distance of any milkshed, duiry or shop. A clause of some importance is the following :—" Nc dairyman or milk vendor shall purchase, supply for sale to others, sell or expose for 6ale in or about any dairy premises, milk-shop, or store, or mix with milk produced for sale on any dairy premises occupied by him, any milk produced at, in, upon, oi about any dairy premises, cowshed oi dairy which is not duly registered in accordance with these regulations."— Tost.
