Pohangina Notes.
The Government are about to fell one chain wide of bush on the lirst two miles of the Salisbury Block road, commencing from the Pohangina river and going in the direction of Apiti. The middle will be cleared thirty-three feet wide and stumps cut down to the level of the ground. Settlers are to have the offer of doing the work on the co-operative principle. There is a pretty stiff bit of climbing from the Pohangina river bed level to get on the high ground, if money is available, the Labor Bureau intend to make a side cutting up the terrace, so that packing can be undertaken with some degree of ease. At present it is heart-breaking, but once up top, the road will be good for a long distance. We are glad to hear that settlers are to have the chance of this bit of road making. There is a scarcity of work just now in our part, and will be, till bush felling commences again. It would therefore seem a waste of energy to bring unemployed from another part when there are some (any amount of them) in the district.
