Continued Native Obstruction
As the natives up the river con tinue to obstruct the works being carried out under the authority of the Wanganui River Trust, and as it seems impossible to arrive at an amicable understanding, Mr Ander son, the Board's foreman, came tc town yesterday and made formal complaint about the obstruction. Aj a result, Mr J. T. Stewart, the chair man of the River Trust, has put the matter in the hands of the police, and the following summonses have been issued on his information : — Against Rea and Kahu, of Matahiwi, for having on 14th January, at Matahiwi, prevented the foreman of the Board making a training wall, by obstructing the men in his employment • against Rama, of the same place, ft r having, on January 30th, cut adrift a punt ; and against Rama, Papu, Heni, Pakao, Kaipara, and M«etu Kehia, all of Ruapirau, for having, on Tuesday last, February 20th, set adrift a punt in use by the foreman and his men, and for throwing away certain crowbars and chains in use on the punt. MountedConstable Hewitt was despatched last evening to serve the summonses. — Chronicle.
