Feilding School Committee

A meeting of the Feilding School Committee was held in the schoolhouse last evening, there being present Messrs F. T. Lethbridge (in the cbair), Carthew, Parker,- Sorley, Taylor and E. Worsfold. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Headmaster reported as follows : — "The attendance is poor, average attendance, 249 ; on the roll, 353. The Inspector was in the school all day on Tuesday. I recommend that the Board be asked to appoint Fredk. Gabites and Alex. Giesen cadets, and I would ask that their appointment date from the beginning of the quarter. The Inspector remarked upon thejioor attendance, but the buildings are too crowded now, and the ventilation needs improvement urgently. Before any steps can be taken to improve the attendance additions to the building will be necessary." » . ■ - A letter wa3 received from '"■■■'. Mr Wilks thanking the committee for nominating him as a candidate for the Wanganui Education Board. It was proposed by Mr Carthew and seconded by Mr E. Worsfold, That this committee vote for Messrs Baker, Sanson and Wilks as members of the Wanganui Education Board. -—Carried. Proposed by Mr Carthew, seconded by Dr Sorley, That Masters Giesen and Gabites be appointed cadets to the Feilding school. — Carried. The chairman stated that he would report the matter of additions to the building to the Board. Proposed by Mr Parker, seconded ,' by Mr Curthew, and carried, That Dr Sorley and Mr J. C. Thompson be the Visiting Committee for the ensuing month. The subject of poor attendance was brought up and discussed. The committee were of the opinion that some steps should be taken to compel more - regular attendance, and on the proposition of Mr Thompson, seconded by Mr Parker, it was resolved, That the Headmaster be instructed to give Constable Tuohy a monthly report of the absentees, so that he could attend to the matter.
