NORTH ISLAND v. NEW SOUTH WALES.
(per press association). Wellington, February 21. The Sydney men won the match by 123 runs. The tail end of the team made an excellent stand, and took the the score to 196. This left the North Island 233 to get, but they proved quite inadequate to the task. Mills, of Auckland, again played well, and when he and Blacklock were together their was a chance of a fair total. The latter, however, was given out by the Sydney umpire l.b.w. to a ball which he played with the bat, and when shortly after the same umpire gave Holdship run out when he was not, the dissatisfaction of the spectators and players became intense, and the latter insisted on the captain protesting. The visitors gave way and withdrew the umpire, but the game was then lost. Mills was caught after making 38, and Lusk was the only other man who met with success. He was out last for 21. The innings closed for 109. '
