Pohangina Road Hoard.

The adjourned meetingof the above was held on Saturday. Present— Wardens Dickin (in the chair), Bell, Lucas and Browne. From Lands and Survey Department, stating that the Board's application for payment of £500 for work through the Totara Reserve has been in the hands of the head office for some time past. From Goodbehere and Richmond, solicitors, Feilding, re handing over leases for gravel reserves to the Board, and stating that they did not see their way to hand over the documents as they were held on behalf of the Board and the lessees. - . From Receiver of Land Revenue, notifying the Board that a cheque for .£760 8s Bd, being thirds and fourths accrued tip to 81st October, 1803, had been paid into the Board's account at the Colonial Bank, Palmer ston, also enclosing schedule of thirds and fourths. From Jas. McMillan, forwarding account for £"21 5s for delivering metal on the Oroua Valley Road leading to Apiti township, and asking for settlement.— The engineer explained that Mr McMillan's contract on the Oroua Valley road had been allowed to stand over for the winter at the latter's request, and the metal had been put . on in the summer to repair the road, -which had been cut up by Mr McMillan in finishing his contract. From the Colonial Secretary, staling that the special order in connection with the loan of £200 for the Apiti Ward had been gazetted. From Secretary of the Kiwitea Road Board, stating that the Government refused to acknowledge the Pohangina Road Board in the matter of the old loans taken over by the latter and raised by the Kiwitea Road Board, and that the half-yearly amount of interest would have to be collected from the Pohangina Road Board and paid by the Kiwitea Road Board. From Land and Income Tax Department, forwarding a schedule of lands in the Pohangina Road District alienated from the Crown from April, 1808, to 31st July, 1893, From P. Kerrigan, stating arrears of rates were due on the land when he purchased same from Mr Brown. From Charles W. Benbow, enclosing rates and stating, that he had purchased Mr W. H. Benbow's interest in the property. From Treasury, stating that £800, pait of the grant for Totara Reserve, had been remitted to the account of the Board. From Land and Survey Department, refusing to supply working tracings of the Wanganui Harbour Board Block, except at the cost of the Pohangina Road Board, and offering to supply a Jitho plan with the prices and tenure marked thereon. From Lands and Survey Department, informing the Board of the date when the Totara Reserve contract would be inspected. — The Engineer reported that Captain Turner, of the Department, had since visited Pohangina and passed the work in the Totara Reserve. From Government Printing Office, ; stating that .the date of the Gazette containing the notice re River Bank Protection Reserve could not be found. From Jas. Gould, applying for a renewal of his slaughtering license— Granted. From Colonial Secretary, refusing to comply with the Board's request to be furnished with copies of the New Zealand Gazette from 1874 to 1893 inclusive. From A. McCurdy, asking that his deposit cheque of £7 11s be paid into the Bank of New Zealand, and that the manager's signature was a sufficient discharge for same. From Goodbehere and Richmond, stating that Allen's agreement to lease gravel reserve had not yet been returned, and asking to have the two agreements in the possession of the Board returned. — The Secretary was instructed to write to Messrs Goodbehere and Richmond, and inform them that the agreements will be signed and returned when the reserves are vested in the Board. The Engineer's report was read and adopted. ' Proposed by Warden Bell, seconded by Warden Lucas, That the Board pay Mr McMillan £10 10s for delivering 170 yards of metal on the Oroua Valley road in full satisfaction of his claim foe £21 ss.— Carried. Proposed by Warden Lucas, seconded by Warden Bell, That the Engineer take steps to expend any thirds that may have accrued in any of the Wards. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Dicken, seconded by Warden Browne, That Mr J. Herbert Hankins be appointed solicitor to this Board, and be instructed to issue neces* sary summonses at once for recovery of overdue rates. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Lucas, seconded by Warden Dickin, That the Secretary write to the Minister of Lands asking him to vest all reserves in the Pohangina Road District in the Board.— Carried. Proposed by Warden Dickin, seconded by Wardin Browne, That Mr P. Kerrigan be informed that the Board holds him liable for all rates in arrear on the section he purchased from Mr Brown.— Carried. Proposed by Warden Bell, seconded by Warden Dickin, That the Engineer be empowered to purchase wire rope and cage, also manilla rope for the sum of £3 10h, same to be put across the Oroua river at Terrace road.— Carried. Proposed by Warden Browne, seconded by Warden Bell, That the Secretary write to the Government Printer and obtain a copy of the Wanganui Harbor Endowment Act, the original Act con. veyiug the Grant from Government to Wangauui Harbor Board. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Bell, seconded by Warden Dickhi, That the Engineer be instructed to set off and prepare plans and specifications, and call tenders for the formation and metalling of about 80 chains of Terrace road, the work to be commenced as soon as money is available. — Carried. Proposed by Warden Lucas, seconded by Wardin Dicken, That the Secretary write to the Kiwitea Road Board, ami forward cheque for £186 9s, interest due on loans, also cheques for £14 3s 4d, separation liabilities, and inform them that this amount covers the Pohangina Road Board's indebtedness up to De« ceinber 31st, 1893. Also to point out that according to the agreement the Pohangina Road Board pays the Kiwitea Road Board £11 per year, and has nothing to do with the latter Board's half. yearly payments in regard to the matter. - Carried. Proposed by Warden Bell, seconded by Warden Dickin, That the thirds accruing from Ash worth, Hedges, and other sections, previously authorised to be spent on London's road, he handed over to the Kiwitea Road Board as soon as received in order that the works may be proceeded with at once.— Carried. The Chairman mentioned that Wardens Arbon (No. 4 Ward), Lucas (No. 6 Ward), aud Dickin (No. 2 Ward), retire in April by effluxion of time. The following tenders were received : Collection of dog tax— H. Wishaw, £9 12s ; H. J. Hayns, £9 ; H. J. Ashworth, .4*9 ; W. F. Marsh (informal), £5; W. Clare, £4. — Mr Hayns' tender was accepted. Contract 31— J. H. Anderson, £171, metalling 2s per yard; K. GVLeary, £227 19a, metalling Is lOd ; Jas. Breen, £159, n:et tiling Is8d; John O'Connor, £214, metalling 2s 3d; M. Matthews, formation and metalling, £88 10s ; W*. F. Marsh, £79 9s. Mr H. J. Anderson's tender for forniation on contracts Nos. 31, 32, and 33, and for metalling as far as money was available, was accepted. The tender of \V\ F. Harsh for contract No. 34 was also accepted. Accounts amounting to £615 4s «">d were passed for payment.
