He was working at the bottom of the shoot when a log accidentally came down. Wellington, This Day. A young man named James Wright was bathing in the Hutt river yesterday when he struck his head in diving, causing paralysis of the spine. His life is despaired of. At i bo inquest on the body of tbo woman named Marian Allen, who committed suicide by taking spirits of salts a verdict of temporary msaniiy was roturned. The evidence showed that tho unfortunate womau had on Jtwo occasions been confined in the Sunnysido Asylum. Hokitika, February 18. A miuing fatality occurred at Donoghue's yesterday. Joseph McCreacy, 22, was working with his father in the tunnel, when the timbers gavo way. The fathor was caught in tbe run of dirt that followed, but managed to extricate himself, but tbe son was buried, and his bodjr was not reached till roirfnifrht.
