Pohangina Notes.
[FBOM OUE OWN COBBBBPONDBNT.] The following officers were elected at the ordinary monthly meeting of Court Pohangina, held in the Foresters' Hall, Ashurst :— C.R., Mr C. A. W. Hunt ; S.C., Mr H. Tremewan ; S.W., Mr Thos. Wilson; J.W., Mr Thos. Grammar ; 5.8., Mr B. Whittaker : J. 8., Mr W. Maunder ; Sec, Mr E. C. Sanders; Treas.,MrG. S. Bumble. There was a good attendance. Three new members were proposed, Bro. W. Maunders was presented with the neck ribbon of Past Chief Banger, on the occasion of his retiring from the chair. Miss Warne has been appointed teacher of the Pukeroa (Spur road) school, Mr B. Evans, the former teacher, having been promoted to a larger school. During the short time Mr Evans had been in charge, he proved himself an efficient teacher. Every scholar passed at the last inspection of his school. Two squared culvert sides made of heart of totara have just been removed from the Pohangina road. The drain required deepening, and 18-inch earthern pipes were laid in, in place of the timber. Although the culvert was made fourteen years ago, the totara is still good. Two milk suppliers at our local factory — both observant men — had the effect of a hot dav on milking cows brought under then 1 notice the same day. They, each of them, milk twelve cows, and each man's supply of milk was 201bs less in weight after this particularly hot day. They have only pond water, and attribute the decrease to the fact that the cows did not relish the lukewarm water as much as they would water from a running stream. This shows how necessary it is to have a plentiful supply of pure running water, so that the milky mothers of the herd can mix their own milk and water at discretion. The cow with the iron tail is, after all, more true to nature thau many think. Did you notice the fact that the increase of the number of votes by extending the franchise to women, was only an imaginary one. The women were put on with the one hand, and seventy-t%vo thousand who did not exercise their right were struck off with the other. What does the outside world think of it ? On dit, that a public hall is to be ba^t in our town. We are aspiring to become^ like Ashurst, and have a Theatre Roynl. The Post Office at Mr Cuilen's store saves qur business people many journeys. ... But it is necessary for our outside friends to remember that there are two Po; hangina post offices, and that if a letter is directed to any person in" the town it must have the word '• township " added to Pohaugina, and if for the old post office the word Pohangina only is necesaary.
