The Payne Family.
The talented Payne Family of musicians appeared in the Feilding Assembly Rooms last evening to a very large audience. The company gave a good exhibition of their powers in bellringmg, comic and sentimental singing, violin music, &c, and were repeatedly encored. The trio, by Mr Steele and the Misses Morella and Handricks, " Gipsies Laughing," was exceptionally good, and the audience kept up a continuous roar of applause until they appeared on the stage again. The trio, on re appearing, were strengthened by the addition of Mr Payne, and " The Merry Fat Gray Man " was given as an encore. The humorous part song by the Company, " Dame Durden," also ' took ' very well and was loudly applauded. The vocal and instru- • mental quartette, " The Fairies," was tastefully and sweetly rendered, and was one of the best items given. The bellringing was quite as good as on former occasions, and the same may be said of every number on the programme. The large and appreciative audience which greeted the company was a gratifying token of the high esteem the performers, individually and collectively, are deservedly held.
