A Steamer on Fire.
. * (PUB PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Thursday Island, Feb. 6. The British India Company's steamer Dorunder was discovered on fire nt sea by the s.s. Duke of Argyll. The latter stood by her for 25 hours, as it was feared that the vessel would not be saved ; but the fire was eventually suppressed. While the Dorunda was burning, the steward jumped overboard and was drowned, and a sailor who went mad with excitement was knocked down and stunned for the safety of the others on board. Brisbane, This Day. The fire on the Dorunda was discovered among the wool on Thursdaj' last. A number of bales were jettisoned and the fire wns got under, but it broke out again ; and there was a third outbreak while the Duke of Argyll was standing by, so serious that it was thought the vessel was doomed and all the ships stores were destroyed and a fresh supply obtained from the Duke of Argyll.
