Conference of School Inspectors.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, February 3. At the Inspectors' Conference this morning, the sub-committee on the subject of uniformity of examination brought up a report, and the following recommendations were adopted: — (1) That the best way of providing for [ uniformity of examination throughout the colony under existing circumstances seems to be for the Minister of Education to issue an Inspector's code of instruction, defiuing clearly, if possible, the standard of proficiency to be required for a pass in each subject of every standard class ; (2) That samples of arithmetical tests to be used in each of the Standard classes above Standard 1 should be issued to all In spectors in the colony, to be at least fifty special sets of tests for each year; (3) For defining standard of proficiency necessary for a pass in reading, ■writing, drawing, and composition, the Committee had no suggestions to offer, but submit the following suggestions in connection with spelling and arithmetic : That in Staudards 1 and 2 the pass be two thirds of words, said words to be taken from oue of the Standard class reading books chosen by teacher ; that in Standard 3 about five lines and five words be required, three errors to count for failure.
