Word has been received that the Pahiatua team will not be able to come through to play a match at Feilding on the 9th February, owing to a number of the team being laid up with influenza. The weather was cloudy but fine for the cricket match, Canterbury v New South Wales, Canterbury were the first to bat. At first runs came slowly, and at luncheon three men were out for 45. Then De Maus and Labatt made a fine stand, and as the later batsmen all scored well, the total stood at 295 for the loss of eight wickets when the stumps were drawn at 6 o'clock. De Maus scored 114 in splendid style; Labatt totalled 42 ; Pearce 27, not out ; Wilding 29; Palmer 19; Ridley 15; Lawrence 18; Collins 10, not out; Cuff 5; and Harman 1.
