With reference to the press cablegram from London, announcing the arrival of a trial shipment of eggs, the Agricultural Department explains that the eggs were sent when the wholesale price here was 2£d per dozen. The shipment realised Td and 9d par " long " hundred in London. The Adelaide Steamship Company's lighter was found drifting down the Yarra with the watchman missing. There are indications that the lighter was purposely turned adrift, owing, it is believed, to the ill-feeling of the waterside men. A deputation representing tbe school teachers waited on tbe Minister of Educa lion, and declared that (he proposed stop page of tbe sick pay of teachers was degrading and humiliating They said they would rather have a reduction made in their wage?, as the proposal now made implied tbut the teachers were mahng erers. Tbe Minister .replied that they lab' ued under a misapprehension. He pointed out that the exigencies of tbe State required retrenchment Last year, bo added, the amount paid to teachers for sick pay was £10,700. Fourteen strikers have returned to work at tho South Bulli Colliery. A deputation from the ranks of the strikers will wait on these men, and request them to discontinue work. This Day. The management of the Stockton Col liery has applied for police protection as soon as work is resumed, which, witb the assistance of non-unionists, is expected to be in the cour&e of a few days. Advices received show the small -pox epidemic is making terrible ravages among the Philippine Islands.
