Militarism in Europe.
THE PROSPECTS OF DISARMAMENT. [Per Press Association.] London, January 12. In the House of Commons, Mr W. P. Byles, member for Shipley, urged that an effort should be made to procure mutual disarmament in Europe before making large additions to the Navy. Mr Gladstone agreed that it was an important subject, but considered it doubtful whether it would be of any use to move in the matter at present. He said that Lord Clareudon, when Foreign Sec retary, had suggested that all the nations of the world should disarm, and one great country did encourage the idea.
