The Feilding Star. Published Daily. SATURDAY, JAN. 13, 1894. ARTESIAN WATER.
Ix a recent article we made brief rpference to the proposal of the Mayor, Mr Carthew, to sink for artesian water in the Borough. Since then we have learned that Air Carthew has taken certain steps in the direction indicated and will have an interview at an early date with a well-known contractor for this kind of work, who has been very successful in his boring operations. Until the results of that interview are known we ilo not intend to make any comment or suggestions further than this : In order that the hands of the Mayor may be strengthened, we would propose that the residents whose business premises are on Manchester Square, or immediately adjacent thereto, be invited to state what amounts they would be likely to contribute towards the work. It will be remembered that when the attempt was first made the subscriptions were on a scale sufficiently liberal to cover almost the whole anticipated cost. In the meantime we invite any of the burgesses who are so disposed to give our readers the benefit of their ideas on this very important subject.
