(PRB PBES9 ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, January 12. At the R. M. Court to-day a Wakanui farmer was fined £5 and costs for posting at Ashburton a letter ou which a cancelled stamp was used. The Knights of Labor resolved to request the Government, in view of tho number of men out of work, to find employment for them and to purchase land on which those prepared to cultivate it should be placed. Auckland, January 12. At the meeting of the Institute for the bliud, the balance sheet to 31st March laet, showed the total receipts from the establishment to date to be £9619, aud total expenditure £7125. There are 28 resident pupils, 13 of whom are employed regularly in the workshops. All the competitors for the swimming championship meeting have now arrived
