Captain Faycock, of the steamer Barachool, was missed during the vessel's voyage from Sydney to Melbourne. He is believed to have fallen overboard, as the vessel gave a heavy roll. He was well-known in the coastal trade. The Arawa brings news from the Fiji that nine natives assassinated and murdered a native woman at Wainuna. Four^f the natives concerned in the outrage confessed, and the others have been arrested on the charge of murder. Melbourne, This Day. Mrs Knorr is becoming worse as the day of her execution approaches, and there is every prospect of a terrible scene on the scaffold. The damage by the fire in the General Post Office is set down at .£ISOO. Adklaide, This Day The Adelaide Trade Council has decided to agree to the request of the Port Adelaide branch of the Council to combine in making a protest against the invitation of the Duke and Duchess of York. The Council think such action unwarranted when the financial position of the colony is considered, and the opinion was expressed if the Duke of York wished to visit Australia he can do so at his own expense. The Rev Mr Glasson will represent South Australia at a meeting of the Congregational Union to be held mvNew Zealand shortly. Launchston, This Day. The Premier suggests the AgentGeneral should endeavour to induce the Duke of York to visit Tasmania to open the exhibition at the end of the year.
