Accidents and Fatalities
(per press association 0 Chbistchubch, Junuary 12. The meeting of the Hororata Racing ■ Club was held to-day, and in the principal race an accident, having a fatal termination, occurred in the race for the Cup. My Jack, in the first round ran into the end of the rails and was impaled. Extricating ' himself he fell upon his rider, R. Rae, 1 junr., and a young man named Kelly, who was sitting on the railing, was | severely bruised and had several of the small bones of one of his feet fractured. He was able, however, to be removed home at Riccartou. Kelly, who received serious internal injuries, was taken to the Hororata Hotel, where he died two hours afterwards. Subsequently, the liorse had tp be destroyed. Auckland, January 12. Thomas Flannery, aged 15 years, only son of Mr Elannery, senior warder at MouDt Eden Gaol, was accidentlj killed at Helensyille. He went up on Tuesday for his holidays, and uext day went with Mr Kavanagh into the bush to get a load of s'eepers with a three horse team. Coining out of the bush, the load capsized and a sleeper struck young Flannery on the head, killing him instantly. Opotiki, This Day. Thos. Crirnuiine, who was reported missing, was found drowned in the Waireka river last evening.
