Palmerston District Hospital Board.

The usual monthly meeting of the above was held yesterday. Present — Messrs G. M. Snelson (in the chair), Kendall, Nye, Taylor, Ravenhill, Ban.some, Saxon, and Park. The following correspondence was dealt with : — From Treasury, stating that the sum of £'417 10s 7d had been placed to the credit of the Board. From Feilding Borough Council and Manchester Road Board, forwarding levies for year 1693-94. From Dr Monckton, accepting position of honorary surgeon. From Dr Dermer, Foxton, applying for the position of honorary surgeon. From Sister Mary Joseph Aubert, forwarding claim for expenses in connection with the support of Nellie Hildred, and asking that the allowance be increased from 6s per week to 10s per week, as the child "required medical attendance. Dr Dermer was appointed an honorary surgeon to the hpspital on the motipfl of Mr Nye. It was resolved that {Sister Aubert be informed that if a further sum can be obtained from the parents of Nellie Hildred, it would be paid to her, and the secretary was instructed to take legal proceedings tp recover the expenses iv ; carred from the child's father. The Matron reported that since the opening of the hospital until the 31st December last 25 patients had been admitted ; 9 discharged, and one died, Out of the nine discharged five had been cured and four relieved. A discussion took place on two applications received for special treatment at the Hot Lakes, during which the chairman expressed the opinion that it was not the duty of the Charitable Aid Board to send patients to the Hot Lakes. If such a thing were to become general it would be necessary to raise a loan — Mr Saxou was also strongly opposed to such a course being pursued. He had no faith in a permanent cure being effected by a visit to the Hot Lakes — Mr Park also opposed the applications and it was decided not to entertain them. The chairman said it would be necessary to strike a further levy of Is 3d per £1000 on each contributing body. The reason that .the Board was unable to carry on until the end of March was that so much had been spent on tfie. sewer. When the amount sq spent was refunded by the Bqrpugh Council a pro; portionately smaller levy could-be s,truck during that year. He wag sqrry^ indeed to have tq suggest the levying of $ special rate, but Tie savr np Jieip fpr it. After the vouphers were passed for pay : ment there would be an overdraft of £•300, A long discussion ensued as to the raising of sufficient funds to meet the liabilities of the current year, which were estimated at about £1000 over the receipts, and Mr Park was deputed to interview the Board's banker |and see what arrangements could be made. On returning, Mr Park said the Colonial Bank would allow the Board to overdraw the amount required by the end of the financial year either as an ordinary overdraft or on the guarantee of the members of the Board — Standard, i
