♦ (per fbsss association ) Melbourne, January 12. Mr Marshall Lyle's petition in favour of Mrs Knorr suggested a reprieve mainly on the grqund pf the success which has attended the abolition of the death penalty in other countries. The Governqr has replied that as the penalty js in vogue in Victoria the petition is untenable. The convict has confessed to the njurder of two children, and has withdrawu the charge made against other persons.
