Robertson took 8 wickets for 60 runs, a good performance considering the perfect state of the wicket. Canterbury commenced batting at 5.15, and before the drawing of the stumps at 6.30 p.m. had broken all New Zealand records in matches of this kind, 300 was on the boards without the loss of a wicket. When the last over started off the second ball, Ouff was stumped after playing magnificent cricket for 176. Lawrence took in his bat for 123. The score showing 306 for the loss of one wicket.
