Proposed by Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr Gould, That leave of absence be granted to Cr Morey for this meeting. — Considerable discussion took place over this matter, some Councillors being of opinion that as this was the fourth meeting in succession of the Council that Mr Morey had been absent, his seit was forfeited. — Cr Sandilands thought that it was a gross injustice to the ratepayers that anyone should be allowed to have a seat in the Council, and yet take so little interest in the affairs of the Borough as Cr Morey had done — Other Councillors were of the same opinion, but eventually the proposition of Cr Thompson was carried. Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Gould, That the report of the Finance and Public Works Committees be adopted — Carried. Proposed by Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That the Town Clerk be authorised to draw a cheque for £5 as petty cash — Carried Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That the Mayor and Crs Worsfold, Lethbridge, and the mover be appointed a committee to. deal with the Recreation Reserve — Carried. Proposed by Or Thompson, seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That Mr Svendsen's request to have 2 J chains of foot* path formed in Bowen street be complied with. Cr Worsfold failed to see why the Council should be continually called upon to form footpaths past private residences, etc., in small streets, when there were footpaths in some of the main streets, used far more by the public, which wanted attending to. The Council were not in funds at present, and be certainly thought that the cost of forming these footpaths should be ascertained and well considered before they were taken in hand. Cr Thompson thought that when people built shops, «fee, in the town they should be encouraged, and he was of opinion th|s work should be gone on with, but, at the same time, he cpp r sidered that a pheaper kind of footr path might be made. The Mayor did not think that cheap footpaths would answer, as they would prove dearer in the end. lie hoped in time to see the chief footpaths in the town formed of concrete. After some further disoussion on the matter the proposition was carried. Accounts to the amount of £160 2s were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned.
