The Dunedin Affray.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). Dunkdin, January 3. The inquest on the body of Wm. Mudge, who was fatally injured in the stabbing affray at South Dunedin on Christmas eve, was resumed to-day. Richard Dobson and E. Kufner were present in custody and were represented by counsel, wbo, however, did not examine the witnesses to any extent. Nine witnesses were exam- j ined, and another nine will be called. The evidence was not of a connected description, but it would appear that Kufner and Dobson attacked Ashton and Mudge under the belief that they were men with whom they had scuffled earlier in the night, and one of them took away Kufner's stick and pipe. It also appeared that previous to the fatal encounter they had seized hold of Ashton under tbe belief that he was one of the men, and that as for Kufner, who was muddled with drink, apparently set out to assist them in coming across tho men they wanted; but, going home with his uncle, was again mistaken and attacked and done Mudge to death.
