The Duke of York's Visit to the Colonies.
(Per Press Association.) London, January 2. The Daily News urges the Duke of York to visit the colonies, and deprecates the suggestion that he should go alone. The paper adds that the tour would strengthen the ties between the colonies and the Mother Country and the visit be a living symbol of the unity which would assist federation . It is officially aunounced that the Duke and Dnci-_-8 of York cannot visit Australia this year. The Colonial Office has received the invitation from the Australasian colonies, aud it will be submitted to the Duke of York on Monday. It is expected that he will reply that he will require time to consider the request. January 2. The Duke and Duchess of York, the Princejand Princess of Wales, the Queen, and the Government, have considered the invitation to the Duke and Duchess of York, and though the terms of the decision have not been made known, it i.s certain domestic reasons will compel them to decline the visit this year, and a hope will be expressed for a more favourable chance of accepting the invitation later on.
