Land for Settlement.

A LARGE QUANTITY UNDER OFFER. The Board of Land Purchase Commissioners under the Lands for Settlements Act will meet shortly to deal with nineteen blocks of land, of a total area of 270,565 acres, which are now under offer to the Government. As a matter of fact the Surveyor- General, Mr S. P. Smith, and the Commissioner ofTaxes, Mr C. M. Crombie, left last night for Blenheim, where they sit to-morrow in conjunction with tbe District Land Registrar and the Commissioner of Crown Lands for MarlI borough, to investigate and report upon the lands offered in that district. The various blocks and the districts in which they are situated are as follows :— Marlborough — Four blocks, having an area respectively of 4600 acres, 5700 acres, 5000 acres, and 65,000 acres ; total, 80,800. Canterbury— Six blocks, having an area respectively of 1200 acres, 255 acres, 100 acres, 114,000 acres, 520 acres, and 3100 acres; total, 119,175 acres. The 114,000 acre block is in North Canterbury. Otago — Six blocks, having an area respectively of 850 acres, 920 acres, 1100 acres, 920 acres, 5400 acres, and 5800 acres; total, 14,090 acres. Southland— Two blocks, of 18,000 and 34,000 acres respectively ; total, 47,000 acres. Hawke's Bay— One block of 10,000 acres.— Times.
