The Sydenham Licensing Trouble.
(per press association). CHRisTcrtuncrr, Dec. 14. Another case arising out of the Sydenham Licensing trouble came before the Supreme Court to-day, Richard Hadfield, of the Crown Hotel, appealing against the decision of the R.M. in fining him for alleged illegal sale of Liquor. The Magistrate held that as the Supreme Court had ruled that the Commission acted illegally in the issue of a licence, Hadfield had broken the law by selling. For Hadfield, it was contended that until the license was formerly quashed no offence was committed. Counsel for Hadfield to-day applied for an adjournment of the case till the Privy Council had decided upon the case relative to the Committee from the Court of Appeal. Counsel for the Prohibitionists opposed, and Judge Denniston, after hearing argument reserved his decision.
