Drainage Works at Campbelltown
Messrs Fred. Pirani, M.H.R. for Palmerston, and Mr E. J. Armstrong, interviewed Mr Pollen, the Under Secretary, at Wellington yesterday in reference to the gazetting of the Drainage district adjoining the main drain on the Oroua Downs. Subsequently the deputation, together with the Hon. W. W. Johnston and Mr H. Sanson, interviewed the Under Secretary for Lands (in the absence of the Minister) asking that the Campbelltown portion of the district should bo included in the drainage district, and, after about an hour's argument, it was decided that it would be best for tho original petition to be acceded to, and if the residents of Campbelltown were aggrieved at not being included in the rateable area, they could petition to be taken in afterwards. Mr Sanson's objection seemed to be that the Board would prevent any drainage being conveyed into the main drain from the lands situated above, but this idea was combatted at great length by Messrs Pirani and Armstrong. Mr Johnston expressed himself satisfied that the course the latter favored was the best one, and he advised Mr Sanson *to withdraw his petition.— The Order in Council for the constitution of a drainage district on the Kairanga side of the Oroua river will also be gazetted next week.— Standard.
