In the Supreme Court, Alfred Joseph Kirk, formerly general storekeeper at Hawera, was arraigned on the first of four charges under the • uew Bankruptcy Act, namely, that within 12 months before the presentation of the petition of bankruptcy against him, he unlawfully made preparations for quitting the colony, and taking with him part of his property, which ought to have been divided amongst creditors, to wit, bank notes, gold and dollars of the value of upwards of £200.
