The Colonial Treasurer at Auckland.

[per pbess association.] Auckland, December 8. A large deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, headed by Mr Adam Porter, waited on the Hon. J. G. Ward in regard to several matters. Mr Matthew Clark spoke of the anomalies existing in regard to duties on soft goods, some materials being allowed in free, whilst on others, differing only in pattern, 10 per cent was paid. On the suggestion of Mr McMillan, Mr Ward undertook to confer with the president of the Warehousemen's Association on (he matter on his return to Wellington. He also promised that the route of the line from Auckland to Wellington should be fixed next session. He quite recognised the loss Auckland sustained by the delay. If he lived and had his way, the cost would be reduced very much more. Mr Ward left to-day by the Talune for Wellington.
