Escaping from Gaol

SENSATIONAL OCCURRENCE AT PENTRIDGE (.Per Press Association! Melbourne, December 5. A great sensation was caused at Penridge Prison to-day by an attempt on the part of five desperate criminals to scale tno walls and effect their escape They succeeded in getting over one of the barriers before the sentry raised the alarm, when the armed guard immediately turned out, and, after a desperate struggle, tho prisoners were secured. It appears that while working they broke off the leg irons with stone-breaking hammers, and armed themselves with pieces of metal tied in handkerchiefs.
