The Premier and the Direct Veto Party

(per pbess association). Weixington, December 4 The Premier has received a number of messages from members who have been included in the temperance lists as likely to vote against Government, disclaiming any intention of the sort. Basing a calculation on these messages, and the declared intentions of members as shown in their election speeches, the Premier, who was interviewed on the subject to-day, said as far as he could make out there were twentythree direct vetoists in the new Parliament, of whom five were absolute prohibitionists, who would vote for it before anything else. There were of course a number of other members who favoured the Temperance party, but they were all in favor of giving the Bill a trial.
