Mayoral Elections

The election of Mayor for Feilding for the ensuing twelve months was held at the Borough Council office yesterday, and resulted in the return of Mr Wm. Carthew, who polled 128 votes against hi 9 opponent's, Mr E. Goodbehere's, 95. There were three informal votes. The official result is published today by Mr G. 0. Hill, the Returning officer. Great interest was manifested in the Palmeratou N. Mayoral election, which took place yesterday. No less than 518 votes were polled out of a total of 795. Shortly after 7 o'clock the following results were announced : —Park, W., 232 ; Wood, W. T., 1 4 ; Edwards, X., 83 ; Abrahams, S., 24. Mr S. Abrahams is in the unfor. tunate position of having forfeited his deposit of £10, the Act requiring that one-eighth of the winning candidate's Dumber must be polled to prevent forfeit. (FEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.) "Wellington, November 29. After yesterday's excitement very little interest was taken in the Mayoral election to day, the contest being carried on without any spirit. Mr A de B Brandon defeated Councillor Worth by a large majority, the numbers being : — Brandon, 1 194 ; Worth, 595. CiimsTCUUHcir, Nov. 26. .The Christchurch Mayoral election wns won by T. Gapes, City Councillor, who defeated Eden George, the present Mayor, the numbers polled being —Gapes, 820; George, 365. Dunedin, Nov. 29. Great interest was taken in the city mayoralty. The Prohibitionists and Women's Franchise League were against Fish, the other candidate, Chapman, being brought out by them, and they spared no pains in attempting to repeat the defeat of the previous day. The result wae:— H. S. Fish, 1067 ; C. R Chapman, 749. Fish is seriously ill in bed. Haweba, This Day. The followiug is the result of the Mayoral election : — Major, 131 ; Sutton, 82. Mabton, This Day. In the election of the Mayor, the voting for McDonald and Sicely was equal. Mr McDonald, being senior member of the Council, received the casting vote of the Returning Officer.
