THE CHILD MURDER CASE IN MELBOURNE. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Sydney, November 28. Owing to tho proposed reduction in the soiling price of Newcustle coal, two loading southern collieries hare notified n reduction in the hewing rates at the end j of the year. A meeting of owners and men tomorrow is gcnenlly regarded as a prelude to a universal reduction. Tho Legislative Assembly is discussing the third reading of the Bank Notes Bill. It appears that the Chinaman jumped from the train, owing to having been robbed. He is in a critical condition. The other passengers were frightened to interfere. Another man has been arrested. Melbourne, November 28. The Stock Exchange lias decided that the deposit receipts of the various reconstructed banks and other financial institutions shall be placed on the list from December 1. The rate of selling commission has been fixed at 3d in tho L on the face value. The Southern Cross, a religious jonr« nal, handles Mr Seddon hotly, on the alleged ground that he preverted the opinions of the paper on the question of women's franchise in the course of a recent speech. This D/iy. Thomson, the man whom Mrs Knorr requested to manufacture evidence in the child murder case, was examined yesterday. The Crown Prosecutor called at* tention to certain words that had been scored out in a letter sent by the accused to the witness, and asked the witness whether the words were " Ted, you know you are guilty of what I am charged with, but if you look after my children I will never divulge, and will bear the blame." The witness replied in the negative, and said the words only referred to his relations with the accased.
